The 1" x 42" Belt Sander

This new addition to my assortment of machinery was made necessary by the fact that my assembly table is now in a separate clean area from my other belt sanders and I'm too lazy to walk next door. As I do the fitting of the parts of a knife it is sometimes necessary to shave a little material here and there. That's all I use this for.

This machine was considerably modified as soon as I took it out of the box. There were a lot of protective guard covers which are now gone. There was an extra set of idler wheels to allow sanding internal curves - gone. There was a 9" disk and table on the side - gone. The tool rest was at least twice as big as it needed to be so I cut it down. Finally, even with the 1725 rpm motor it was too fast so I reversed the pulleys and now the belt is slow enough to suit me.
